MHFC hosted Pete Hill for a presentation, An Overview of Native American Cultural Humility & Historical Trauma: The Residual Effects of the Residential Boarding School System. During his talk, Pete shared about Orange Shirt Day. "In 2015, the Orange Shirt Society was formed to create awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of Indian Residential Schools with the purpose of supporting Indian Residential School Reconciliation and promoting the truth that EVERY CHILD MATTERS." To honor the impact of residential schools on the Native American community, people are encouraged to wear an orange shirt on September 30. MHFC staff wore their orange shirts and enjoyed a group lunch.
